PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL. MAKE DISCIPLES. OBEY THE BIBLE.

The sports movement in South Africa is in an exciting phase in its history. Many in our country are in desperate need for a future of hope. As sports ministry people we find ourselves in a wonderful position within a large network to impact communities throughout the country. We have the love of Jesus to be shared with everybody. We are called to make disciple makers for Christ.

As sports ministry leaders we need to focus on the multipliers towards maximum influence and impact. There are very few situations where sport & play and fitness are not applicable, whether people are sportspeople, spectators or simply interested in sport. As we inspire, equip and resource promising leaders, they multiply new teams to go to new places and be effective influencers in their communities and beyond.

In this season, the sport movement has a significant focus to GO to All People, Places, and Sports where we see little impact via sport, play and fitness. We are challenged by the fact that there are gaps between where we are today and where Jeus called us in Matthew 28:18-20 to be.

ABOUT SASCOL

SASCOL is an initiative by church leaders representing the majority of church denominations in South Africa. World Cup Soccer 2010 offered Africa a great opportunity to combat the destructive giants of HIV and AIDS, breaking up the family unity, corruption, violence and ethnic strife.

Through ‘The Ultimate Goal’ and partnership with the International Sports Coalition (ISC), the church captured the golden opportunity to begin to transform the future generations of Africa. SASCOL operated under the mandate of the International Sports Coalition (ISC), which serves all major sports events, e.g. The Olympic Games, FIFA World CupTM, etc.

The Ultimate Goal initiative went on until 2011. From 2012 - 2018 SASCOL operated under the umbrella of Hope Through Sport under the guidance of Ben Marais and Nkosinathi Sixabayi as Directors. It is then that SASCOL Hope was revived and officially re-established in 2018 with Nkosinathi and Jenene Petersen at the helm.

Looking ahead to 2024, the emergence of four new leaders signals a promising future for SASCOL Hope.

WHY SPORT?

Sports is an amazing context for relationship building, sharing the Gospel, and teaching character, both on the field and off the field. SASCOL, believes in the transformative power of sports ministry. Coaches step on and off the field, providing sports training, building trusting relationships, and sharing the truth of the Gospel. As relationships develop, we step off the field going deeper through mentoring, meeting emotional, practical, and spiritual needs. We focus on discipleship; for the purpose of equipping and deploying the next generation of Christian leaders.

Through sports ministry, we have the opportunity to make a lasting impact in communities, both locally and globally reaching hearts and transforming lives by sharing the love of Christ in tangible ways.

You are more than a coach.

  • You are a leader.
  • You are a guide.
  • You are a mentor.
  • And in many ways act as a parent figure.

WHAT WE DO?

SASCOL, acknowledges the significant influence trainers wield in spreading the Gospel and fostering discipleship among children and youth. Our mission is straightforward: to empower coaches, teachers, and community leaders to become proficient discipleship makers through sports ministry. We achieve this by training them in relevant GO Strategies, aiming to instill hope and make a tangible impact in the lives they touch.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.' Amen." (Matthew 28:18-20, NKJV)

PRAYER

Prayer remains central in all our plans and actions. Apart from daily prayer at 9:38 and prayer & fasting on the 25th of. each month, we know that we need to fully subject ourselves to the guidance of Holy Spirit throughout this earthly journey.
